The Indian Civil Services are a dream for lakhs of youngsters.
While the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the most sought-after, all Civil Services are considered prestigious. The post of a civil servant is highly-coveted.
There are several former civil servants, including IAS, IPS, and IFS officers, who serve in the Modi government too.
Here are some famous bureaucrats in the Modi government.
Union Minister KJ Alphons is a 1979-batch IAS officer
He entered politics as an LDF-supported Independent and became an MLA from Kerala's Kanjirapally in 2006.
He joined the BJP in 2011. Alphons is currently a Member of Rajya Sabha and Minister of State for Tourism and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology.
Raj Kumar Singh is a 1975-batch IAS officer
Raj Kumar Singh, a 1975-batch IAS officer, served as Union Home Secretary after which he retired from the service in 2013 and joined BJP the same year.
He then contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Bihar's Arrah and won from the constituency.
In 2017, RK Singh was appointed the Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) and New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge).
Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, a former IAS officer from Rajasthan
The IAS officer-turned-politician won from Rajasthan's Bikaner Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 and 2014 elections.
He is currently the Union Minister of State in Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, and Parliamentary Affairs.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is a former IFS officer
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is also a famous bureaucrat-turned-politician who serves in the Modi government.
He is a former IFS officer of the 1974-batch who joined the BJP in January 2014. He was inducted in the Council of Ministers in September 2017. He is the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs in the Modi government.
#5: Satyapal Singh, a former IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre
Satyapal Singh, a former 1980-batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, is the Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education) and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation in the Modi government. He joined BJP in 2014 and represents UP's Baghpat in Lok Sabha.
