Unidentified men shot Singh dead on Saturday night
MP Irani's close aide, Singh, is also a former head of Baraulia village in Uttar Pradesh.
He was shot dead by unidentified men at around 11:30 pm on Saturday at his house. He was asleep on the veranda outside his house at the time.
He was taken to the trauma center in Lucknow but he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Will get the culprits a death sentence: Irani
Irani said, "I've taken an oath before Surendra Singh ji's family, the one who fired and the one who ordered it, even if I have to go SC, to get the culprits a death sentence, we will knock the doors of the court (sic)."
Singh was a key BJP worker in Amethi
Singh was shot dead only hours after he held a victory rally in Amethi for the newly-elected MP, Irani.
He has reportedly worked closely with the BJP MP and played a key role in the party's team that did the groundwork ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Amethi.
Singh left the post pf Baraulia village head to participate in BJP's election campaign.
Son blames Congress
Singh's son claims Congress workers are behind his father's killing
Blaming Congress workers, Singh's son Abhay said, "After she (Irani) became an MP, a 'Vijay Yatra' was held. I think some Congress supporters didn't like it. We have suspicions on some people."
He added, "We couldn't see the perpetrators but it is clear that Congress workers are behind this. My father was actively campaigning for Smriti Irani... BJP got many votes from our booth."
