The University of Delhi, established in 1922, is one of the most renowned educational institutions in India.
Every year, it receives lakhs of applications from students across India and other countries too. However, there are numerous myths and misconceptions attached to the DU college life that many students, especially the freshers, believe.
Here are 5 such common myths that need to be busted.
Delhi University's best colleges are in the North Campus
Many students believe that the best colleges of Delhi University are only in the North Campus. However, this is a myth.
Though a number of colleges in DU's North Campus are among the top-ranking ones, there are many prominent colleges in the South Campus and other zones too. These colleges are equally good in almost every field, including academics, sports, and other extracurricular activities.
Students applying through quotas don't need to have good score
There is a commonly-believed myth about Delhi University admissions that students don't need a good score to get admission if they are from the Sports or ECA (Extra Curricular Activities) quota.
However, students need a decent score even if they're applying through quota. Candidates have to face tough competition in quota trials and getting admitted to colleges of their choice through quotas isn't easy.
Ragging by seniors is a part of DU college life
One of the biggest fears of students who have secured admission and are about to join DU is ragging by seniors. Many believe ragging is a part of DU life.
However, the truth is that ragging is a serious offense in Delhi University and doesn't exist there.
Even if freshers come across seniors who are trying to rag/harass them, they can complain to authorities.
'Fitting' into DU colleges is not easy
Many freshers believe that they won't be able to "fit" into Delhi University colleges. However, this is just a misconception.
In reality, DU is a place where students from different backgrounds and cultures come together; most people are welcoming. Though freshers might take some time to adjust, they will eventually realize that DU is one of the best places to study.
Students can bunk classes whenever they want
Freshers think that once they join DU, they can bunk classes whenever they feel like but this is a myth. Most DU colleges have compulsory attendance system and students must have certain minimum attendance per subject to appear for exams.
Many students also believe DU life means regular partying. But students might actually have very less time for this because of classes and assignments.
