Clearing the national-level Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), conducted for admission to postgraduate courses in engineering and science, is not an easy task, especially without coaching.
However, Sagar Shah of a small village called Pipalkoti in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district achieved the feat when he the cleared the GATE 2019 that too in his very first attempt.
Here's more on Sagar's inspiring journey.
Sagar hails from a simple, middle-class rural family
Sagar, who comes from a middle-class rural family, completed his 10+2 education from a government school and pursued a diploma in civil engineering from Dehradun.
He then started working and helping manage a small yet popular 'pakora' shop owned by his family, Shahji's Pakora Shop, in Pipalkoti, according to The Better India. However, instead of opting for a job, Sagar wanted to something bigger.
There are no exam coaching centers in Pipalkoti
Sagar, who is currently pursuing engineering from Chamoli's Kothiyal Sain, had decided to take the tough GATE exam.
Despite hailing from a place like Pipalkoti where there are no exam coaching centers or any other means of exam preparation, he worked hard and cleared the competitive GATE exam in 2019, becoming an inspiration for other aspiring and hardworking youngsters and meritorious students in Pipalkoti.
Sagar attributes success to support of family and teachers
Clearing GATE in the first attempt without any coaching is no small feat and Sagar achieved it by preparing for the exam simultaneously while pursuing engineering and helping manage his family's 'pakora' shop.
He, however, attributed the success to the support of his family and teachers.
The story of this village boy proves that with hard work and determination, nothing is impossible to achieve.
The hills have untapped potential and talented students: Sagar
Sagar, while speaking to Sanjay Chauhan for The Better India, said that "the hills" have "untapped potential" and many talented and meritorious students. He also added that what these students require is "more self-belief" apart from a lot of hard work.
