A case has been filed against UK-based rapper Taran Kaur Dhillon, popularly known as Hard Kaur, for her comments against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, RSS, and its chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Kaur has been slapped with sedition charges on the basis of a complaint filed by lawyer Shashank Shekhar in Varanasi.
Apart from sedition, other sections of IPC were also evoked.
Earlier this week, Kaur took to her Instagram account to berate RSS, Bhagwat, and Adityanath.
In one of her posts, she held RSS responsible for all terror attacks in India, including 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the Pulwama attack.
She reminded that RSS was banned by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, used abusive language in her posts and asked people to share it too.
Kaur called Adityanath a "rape man" who is called when "you want your sisters, mothers, daughters raped". She promised slain journalist Gauri Lankesh that her murderers won't go scot-free and also blamed RSS for the death of 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare.
RSS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL TERRORIST ATTACKS IN INDIA INCLUDING 26/11, PULWAMA ATTACK. THE FACE OF ALL PROBLEMS IN INDIA. CONSTITUTIONAL CASTEISM IS A CRIME. Quite unsurprisingly, Kaur's comments stoked controversy and landed her in trouble.
According to reports, the complainant Shashank Shekhar is an RSS volunteer. In his complaint, he said Kaur's comments hurt him.
The case was filed under IPC Section 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion), 500 (defamation), 505 (intent to incite) and Section 66 of the IT Act.
SHO Cantonment Vijay Pratap Singh said the complaint will be forwarded to the cyber cell. The case will be investigated on the basis of the cyber cell's findings.
Now, Kaur may have twisted facts and shown her biases in her posts, but Uttar Pradesh police certainly went overboard with the sedition charges.
