As per reports, 11 students out of 30 of a Dehradun-based coaching institute, being run by RailTel, have cracked the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced this year.
All the students of the coaching institute, Akansha Super 30, come from poor socio-economic backgrounds.
To note, JEE-Advanced results were announced on June 14, and 38,705 candidates across the country have cleared the cut-off of the exam.
"We are very happy that we are able to play a small role in building a bright career of these students," he added.
The center takes in just 30 students, and all of them cracked JEE-Mains this year, "of which 11 qualified for JEE Advanced," he further said.
The coaching institute selects 30 meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds from different corners of Uttarakhand.
The selected students then undergo an 11-month program and are mentored to prepare for IITs, NITs, and other reputed engineering colleges.
All the selected ones are provided boarding, lodging and coaching facilities free of cost.
In order to pick the deserving students, the coaching center first conducts a written test.
Along with questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, the students also have to write an aptitude test.
Finally, an interview round is conducted for the shortlisted students.
This coaching center's working model seems to have been inspired from the famous Super 30 coaching in Patna, Bihar.
Mathematician Anand Kumar founded this institution in 2002 to provide an IIT preparation platform to 30 poor students. His popularity is such that even Bollywood couldn't ignore him.
This year, all 30 of his students have cleared JEE-Mains, while 18 of them have cracked JEE-Advanced.
