Earthquake measuring 5.8 on Richter hits Delhi, Gurgaon

Powerful tremors were witnessed in Delhi and neighbouring Gurgaon and Noida when an earthquake gauging 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit at 10.33 PM.

With Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand as its epicentre, the tremors lasted almost 15 seconds.

Delhi's CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted praying for everyone's safety.

There have been no reports of any damage yet.

According to officials in the state government, there was no major damage caused to property or life from the earthquake that occurred in Uttarakhand on late Monday.

The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.8; it occurred at 10.33 pm in Rudraprayag district.

Minor cracks in walls and ceilings in houses of Chamoli and Dehradun were reported.

According to a senior official in the disaster management department, offices of the PM and the Union Home Minister were in touch with the state authorities.

Reports collected suggest that the quake was felt in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri, Haridwar and Dehradun districts of Uttarkashi.

Tremors felt in Champawat, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital and Udahm Singh Nagar forced people to spend the night out.
