Kailash Satyarthi's missing Nobel Prize

Authorities have recovered the replica of the Nobel Peace Prize and other valuables that were stolen from Kailash Satyarthi's house.

3 people have been arrested in connection with the case. They had also stolen several valuables including jewellery.

However, there is no information on Satyarthi's Nobel certificate.

One of Satyarthi's aides said "It is an important document. We will raise the issue."

IntroductionWho is Kailash Satyarthi?

Born in 1954, Satyarthi left his career as a lecturer to become Secretary-General of the NGO Bonded Labour Liberation Front in 1980, and went on to start the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Movement) in the same year.

In 1998, Satyarthi organized the Global March Against Child Labour across 103 countries. He was also President of the Global Campaign for Education from 1999-2011.

Satyarthi is credited with freeing over 83,000 children across 144 countries.

Satyarthi won several awards including the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award, the Golden Flag Award, Freedom Award, Gold medal of the Italian Senate, Defenders of Democracy Award and even the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 2015, Harvard University awarded the prestigious "Humanitarian of the Year" award to Kailash Satyarthi.

First Indian Nobel Peace Prize

Kailash Satyarthi became the first Indian to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, when he shared the award with Pakistani child activist Malala Yousafzai. He is also the first Indian to win Harvard's "Humanitarian of the Year".

There was a theft reported at Kailash Satyarthi's residence on February 7.

Various articles have reportedly been stolen, including his Nobel prize certificate and a replica of the prize.

The original Nobel Prize is at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Satyarthi is currently in the US. The theft was discovered when his son returned to find the house ransacked.

Delhi Police DCP (southeast) Romil Baaniya said authorities recovered Kailash Satyarthi's Nobel citation from a forested area near southeast Delhi's Sangam Vihar.

Three people arrested in connection with the crime confessed to dumping some of the loot in the jungle "as they thought they were worthless."

Satyarthi said that he was "thankful to Delhi Police for their efforts."
