A 32-year-old woman was arrested for the rape of a minor girl in Ongole in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district on Thursday.
Reportedly, the accused, Gonuguntla Sumalatha, would sedate young girls and sexually abuse them. Her accomplice Vamsi Krishna was also arrested.
Meanwhile, Sumalatha's husband, Gonuguntla Yedukondalu, killed himself on Wednesday after the shocking incident came to light.
Here are more details.
On Monday, the minor girl complained to the district SP Siddharth Kaushal that she had been sedated and raped, Singarayakonda circle inspector Turaka Xavior Ajay Kumar told reporters on Friday, according to The Hans India.
The girl hails from Jarugumilli village and is studying Intermediate first year.
She suspected the involvement of Sumalatha, Yedukondalu, Krishna, and one Sai Ramesh Reddy in her rape.
Reportedly, the SP ordered Singarayakonda CI to probe the allegations, which led the police to Yedukondalu's residence on Wednesday.
While raiding the house, the police found a bag of dildos and other sex toys.
Subsequently, Yedukondalu jumped off the building and was rushed to a private hospital, where he reportedly confessed that his wife is a pervert. He later died at the hospital.
Notably, Sumalatha used to invite girls to her home and along with Krishna and Yedukondalu, sexually abused them after sedating them.
Sumalatha would use sex toys on her victims while they were in an unconscious or a semiconscious state.
According to India Today, Sumalatha also dressed as a man and identified herself as Sai Ramesh Reddy to the victims.
Krishna, who sells SIM cards, reportedly helped Sumalatha trap young girls by sharing their phone numbers to the couple, who got married seven years ago.
After their marriage, the couple moved to Ongole to run a noodles stall, where Krishna used to work briefly.
Both Yedukondalu and Sumalatha hailed from Kondepi and were previously married. Yedukondalu was an auto-rickshaw driver.
Sumalatha and Krishna were arrested on Thursday for raping the girl.
They were booked for kidnapping, forcing unnatural sex, and also under various sections of the POCSO Act.
The two were produced in court where the judge remanded them to 15-day custody.
Further, CI Ajay Kumar said they are trying to find other victims of the accused.
