Davinder Singh case: LoC trade body chief arrested by NIA
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made the sixth arrest in its probe into the case of suspended Jammu & Kashmir Police DSP Davinder Singh.
Singh was caught red-handed ferrying terrorists of the Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) in J&K's Kulgam.
The NIA has now arrested the president of Cross-LoC Trade Association, Tanvir Ahmed Wani, in connection with the case.
Here are more details.
Wani summoned to Delhi from Pulwama; arrested on Wednesday
According to India Today, Wani was arrested in Delhi on Wednesday after being summoned from Pulwama. He has since been taken to Jammu on two-days remand.
Wani allegedly supplied Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) terrorist Naveed Mushtaq alias Babu with funds, the report stated. Naveed was arrested, while traveling with Singh.
Wani also allegedly acted as a middleman between entities in Pakistan and HM and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Singh arrested on January 11 with two HM terrorists
Suspended DSP Singh was arrested with two HM terrorists, Naveed and Rafi Ahmed Rather, on January 11.
A third, lawyer Irfan Ahmad Mir, was also arrested with them.
Naveed's brother Irfan Mushtaq was later arrested on January 23.
While Singh was sent to 15-day judicial remand in Hiranagar Jail (Kathua), the four others were sent to the high-security Kot Bhalwal Jail on Jammu's outskirts.
Singh was on Hizbul's payroll: Report
NIA sources informed The Indian Express that Singh was on the payrolls of HM.
Reportedly, Singh would regularly receive money from Naveed for providing assistance throughout the year. Singh also took money for providing transport and shelter to the terrorists.
When they were caught last month, Singh was ferrying the terrorists to Jammu and had reportedly arranged for them to travel further to Pakistan.
'Singh was negotiating Rs. 20-30 lakh for moving terrorists'
A security establishment officer told TIE, "Davinder was negotiating between Rs. 20-30 lakh for this job. He hadn't been paid the full amount yet though."
The officer added, "Irfan's phone had been put on surveillance. The chatter revealed Naveed's plan to leave for Jammu in an i10 car on January 11. Davinder was a chance arrest, albeit not shocking."
