J&K: Terror attack death toll rising since 2013

Data from the Home Ministry has revealed that the number of deaths from militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir has been on the rise since 2013.

The data was recorded between 1990 and 2017. It also showed that between 2006 and 2012, the number of deaths decreased.

The data was released in response to an RTI query.

The worst year for Jammu and Kashmir was 2001, when 996 civilians, 536 security personnel and 2,020 militants died in the conflict.

1995 and 1996 had the worst civilian death tolls when 1031 and 1341 civilians died.

From January to March 2017, five civilians, 12 security personnel and 35 militants died.

2016 saw a massive 247 deaths, the worst in recent-times.

Between 1990 and 2017 13,941 civilian, 5,055 soldiers and 21,965 militants passed away in the Kashmir conflict. 40,961 people have died since the Kashmir conflict began.
