Bihar govt's compensation cheque for Sukma martyr bounces

Of insults, martyrs and politicians!

A cheque issued by the Bihar government to the family of one of the CRPF martyrs from the Sukma attack has bounced.

This is the second insult to martyrs from the state, after state government officials failed to turn up at the wreath-laying ceremony of 6 martyrs from the state.

CRPF jawan Ranjeet Kumar's wife deposited the cheque which HDFC bank refused to honour.

On 24 April, a CRPF convoy which was assigned for road-construction security duties in Sukma was ambushed by 300-400 armed Maoists.

The cheque bounce issue

The cheque in question was one of HDFC bank from their Sheikhpura Branch.

When the cheque was sent for clearing to Noida, the Noida office found a mismatch in the signatures of the cheque.

Officials said that this was because the signature in the Noida office was of previous Sheikhpura DM, Chandrashekhar Singh instead of incumbent DM Dinesh Kumar.

Sheikhpura DM says problem rectified

Dinesh Kumar, DM of Sheikhpura said "There was some error regarding signature. We have called the HDFC representatives and sorted out the problem. Now, whenever Savita Devi deposits her cheque, it will be honored."
