Pak violates ceasefire, woman killed along LoC

On 11th May, a woman was killed and her husband was injured in the latest ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Nowshera sector in Rajouri.

This is the fourth ceasefire violation by Pakistan in this month itself.

Sources said that firing is still underway in the region.

The army said Pakistan had resorted to mortar shelling, small arms fire and automatic weapons fire.

A BSF soldier was killed in the latest ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Arnia sector. The violation took place between 7-7:30 AM.

Pakistani sources had blamed India for yesterday's violations. However, India clarified that Indian troops only fired on Pakistani positions in retaliation and in self defence.

This is the latest in a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan this month.

In May, this is already the fourth ceasefire-violation by Pakistan. This includes the cross-border raid in which Pakistan mutilated the bodies of 2 Indian soldiers.

In April, Pakistan violated the ceasefire at least 4 times and the same was seen in March as well. 23 Indian soldiers died due to ceasefire-violations in 2015 and 2016.

An RTI response revealed almost daily ceasefire-violations by Pakistan.

Some stats on ceasefire violations

Data suggests that there were 228 ceasefire violations along the LoC and 221 along the international border in 2016. In Oct'16 there were 78 ceasefire violations, 88 in Nov'16 and at least 22 last month.
