Lalu's daughter, her husband summoned by I-T dept

Misa Bharti, the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav and her husband Shailesh Kumar have been summoned before the I-T department's investigating officer who is looking into the Rs. 1000 crore benami deals of the Yadavs.

CA Rajesh Agarwal was earlier arrested and was believed to have helped in the deals.

The I-T department said they called Bharti to record her statement in the case.

The I-T department conducted raids and surveys at 22 locations in Delhi and NCR, saying they were looking into alleged benami deals involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, worth over Rs. 1000 crore.

The BJP had recently accused him of being part of several illegal land deals.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanded a government probe into the allegations.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that Lalu Prasad's daughter had failed to declare these assets in her declaration submitted to the Election Commission.

He added that the deals took place when Lalu Prasad was Railways Minister under the UPA government.

He asked Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to enact a special law to confiscate such illegal properties.

The case relates to a company M/s Mishail Packers and Printers Private Limited, which has links to Bharti and Shailesh and allegedly entered into a benami deal to purchase a farmhouse near Delhi.

I-T officials said they would enact provisions of the new Benami Transactions Act to prosecute the couple.

They will also be charged with domestic tax evasion under the I-T Act.

The I-T department has issued fresh summons for June 12 to MP Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, over benami land deals worth Rs. 1,000cr and on tax evasion charges.

She was supposed to appear on June 6, but didn't turn up. Her husband Shailesh Kumar is supposed to appear tomorrow.

Reportedly, Bharti's lawyer wanted to depose before the investigating officer.

The IT department has attached 12 plots belonging to Lalu Prasad's daughter Misa Bharti, her husband Shailesh, sisters Chanda and Ragini and more members of the Yadav family.

The clan is being investigated over alleged benami deals worth over Rs. 1,000cr. A firm owned by Bharti and Shailesh reportedly facilitated one of those deals.

Earlier, she and Shailesh skipped summons by the department.
