Indian users would consume 11GB data/month by 2022: Report

A study on data usage of Indians

By 2022, the data traffic for every smartphone user in India will touch 11GB a month.

This drastic data increase will be due to "fast smartphone adoption, changing users' behavior and disruptive pricing strategies" Ericsson Mobility Report 2017 said.

It added that, India will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of almost 40% and will reach 8 exabytes of data by 2022.

A study revealed that Indians' 3G data consumption had grown by 85% this year.

The median 3G data usage per person in India had leaped to 753 megabytes (MB) and the booming 4G handset market will further boost data traffic in the coming year.

New network launches and developments in current circles had boosted data appropriation beyond larger cities and towns.

While the data consumption for an average Indian had reached 753 MB per month, globally, the data consumption per person ranges from 800 MB to 1 gigabyte (GB).

Amongst other findings, it revealed that GSM would be the dominant technology which accounts for 70% of total mobile subscriptions.

By 2022, LTE and WCDMA/HSPA technologies would account for 85% Indian subscriptions.

5G subscriptions were forecast to become available, making 0.2% of total mobile subscriptions to reach 3 million.

It projected that the 23 million cellular IoT connections were estimated to reach 191 million.
