Floods wreak a havoc in North-East India

Three people were killed and two were reported missing after a massive landslide in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district.

Reports revealed that the landslide transpired inside an industrial area of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation in Umiam.

The accident was triggered by continuous rain in the region.

More people could be trapped under the debris and rescue operations are underway.

The floods in Assam have affected almost 1,00,000 people in Lakhimpur and Karimganj districts, with four rivers flowing above the danger mark.

A report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said 140 villages were under water.

The calamity has destroyed harvests in 385.67 hectares of land.

Relief camps have been set up at several places.

The floods haven't spared anyone: animals at the Kaziranga National Park are also suffering. Reports revealed that over 30% of the park's 858 sq km land is already under water.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has circulated a series of directions to Kaziranga authorities to ensure safety and security to the animals.

19 Jun 2017NE floods- Indo-Bangladesh border fence damaged in many areas

Apart from affecting tens of thousands of people, floods in the northeast have given rise to security concerns.

The BSF said incessant rains have "caused huge damage to the India-Bangladesh Border Fence in many places". In many low-lying areas, it has been submerged.

Over 1,600 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged. The Dhansiri and Jia Bhoroli rivers are flowing above danger levels.
