With the long-awaited festival of colors just around the corner, it's time to don our Holi hats!
The festival, filled with colors, amazing food, dancing and celebrations, also brings with it a small problem- your skin health might take a toll.
But, you don't have to worry. Here are tips to take care of your skin this Holi.
Pre-Holi skin-care tips: Use a moisturizer and sunscreen
Moisturize: Before heading out to play, thoroughly moisturize your skin, preferably with coconut/almond oil. Apply it over your hair and body. This will help avoid the colors to get into the skin, thus aiding in easier removal later on.
Sunscreen: The sun might ruin the fun. Stay safe from sun tan and burns, by applying a reasonable amount of sunscreen before stepping out.
Cover up well, Opt cotton clothing
Cover up: Go for full-sleeve top/t-shirt and full pants for playing colors. This will ensure least possible contact between the skin and the colors. Further, wearing full clothing will protect your skin from the harsh sunlight.
Cotton clothing: Opt for comfortable (preferably cotton) clothing. This is so because tight, synthetic fabrics might cause allergies or reactions, as they come in contact with colors.
Mind the nails, Stay hydrated
Nails: Colors might settle under your nails, and refuse to go. This is quite dangerous considering it might enter your body through contact with food. Before playing, cut short your nails, and apply a dark-colored nail paint to stay safe.
Hydration: Dehydrated skin is more prone to getting sunburned and getting affected by colors. So, make sure to keep drinking water and juices throughout.
Post-Holi skin care tips: Use face-mask, Avoid make-up
Use face-mask: Use a natural, home-made face-pack after the play to get the color off your face, and cleanse it well. Some good options to consider are turmeric and milk, curd and honey, green tea and aloe vera, among others.
Avoid make-up: Chemicals in your make-up kit might react with those in colors, leading to skin issues. So, limit or avoid wearing make-up.
Rub ice and Moisturize
Rub ice: Wrap a couple of ice cubes in a thin cotton cloth, and use it to soothe skin of your face and neck area. This will help protect your skin from sunburn and dryness.
Moisturize: Rest assured, stick to your usual cleansing routine after playing with colors is done with. Also, use a good-quality moisturizer to avoid skin dryness.
