Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, Germany, assembled 1,237 scientific studies into a single database called 'Litterbase', which identifies places around the world with the most marine plastic pollution.
According to the database, the sea-water around Mumbai is the most polluted globally.
The study attributed this to recreational, regional activities plus fishing.

BEST fares may increase by Rs. 2 or Rs. 4
On Sunday, the BEST administration drafted a plan which includes provisions like a hike in the minimum fare by anywhere between Rs. 2 and Rs. 4.
Getting rid of approximately 284 air-conditioned (AC) buses and suspending recruitment except for bus-drivers and conductors is also on the list.
A special BEST committee meeting scheduled for Thursday will review the draft.
Bomb scare at Parel turns out to be a farce
The Mumbai Police Control Room received an anonymous call on Saturday at 11:15 pm, with a tip that a blast would occur at Parel station at 5 pm on Sunday.
The blast, however, did not occur.
The caller was identified as Ramakant Mishra and told the police that he overheard two people in Dharavi discussing the alleged terrorist attack.

Malabar Hill loses electricity third time in seven days
On Sunday morning, a 11 KV feeder on Cumballa Hill tripped for the third time since one week, leaving parts of South Mumbai without electricity for over two hours.
The power-cut affected Malabar Hill, Babulnath, Peddar Road, Gowalia Tank and Cumballa Hill.
A senior BEST official is set to probe the cause behind the feeder tripping for three times in a week.
Students pleased with JEE-Mains examination paper
Approximately 10 lakh students across India gave the Joint Entrance Examination-Mains (JEE-Mains) on Sunday.
A couple of questions aside, most students found the question paper fairly easy.
BE and BTech aspirants appeared for Paper-I in the morning whereas Paper-II (for B.Arch and BPlanning) was conducted in the afternoon.

CA involved in Chaggan Bhujbal's case summoned, office raided
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday raided the office of Jagdish Purohit, the chartered accountant who was accused of converting Rs. 46.7 crore black money for Chaggan Bhujbal, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader.
The raid led to the seizure of accusatory documents; according to officials, Purohit had formed 700 shell companies with 20 dummy directors, out of which 130 companies are still operational.
