Mumbai: 2 Vasai societies fighting for water-connection since a decade
The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation has failed to provide 2 housing societies in Vasai's Evershine City with a water connection since they were formed in 2007.
Residents have been using mineral water for drinking and cooking purposes.
They allege that the Municipal Corporation refused them water connection due to "water shortage", but have provided connections to other establishments.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation spent Rs. 23 lakh and 2 years on a study which found localities like Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Powai, Vikhroli, Vidyavihar and Mulund most prone to earthquakes.
The fault line stretches all the way to Bhiwandi.
In 2016, BMC received 63% more air pollution complaints
From 2015 to 2016, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received 63% more complaints with regards to air pollution.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded in January and December 2016 was higher when compared to previous years.
In 2015, BMC received 94 air pollution-related complaints, whereas in 2016, the number went up to 51.

MMRDA asked to submit latest Metro-3 plan excluding childrens' park
The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) was directed by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday to handover amended plans and approvals for the Cuffe Parade Metro-3 station, excluding an area designated for a childrens' park.
The HC was hearing petitions complaining that MMRCL had decimated an area designated for a childrens' park despite a rejection from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
Mumbai's highways will be excluded from SC's liquor ban
After Supreme Court announced its ban on liquor shops within 500 metres from state and national highways, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis wrote to the Public Works Department (PWD), asking them to exclude the Western and the Eastern Express Highways of Mumbai from the same.
Due to this, approximately 340 liquor shops, permit rooms and bars in Mumbai would escape the ban.
82% of noise pollution complaints lack substance: Mumbai Police
The HC was hearing a PIL about the ignorance of noise pollution rules during festivals like Ganeshotsav, Navratri etc. and the authorities' negligence towards the same.
Altogether, 185 criminal cases have been registered against noise polluters under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
Six more spots on the Expressway found to be landslide-prone
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) recognized six more areas in the Bor Ghat section on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway that are prone to landslides.
Relief work on these locations will be undertaken during the monsoons as Bor Ghat has witnessed numerous landslides in the rainy season.
Work at the newly identified locations would cost the government Rs. 64crore.
