State decides to monitor donations received by private charitable institutions
On Tuesday, the Government of Maharashtra made it compulsory for private institutions, individuals and NGOs for receiving permits from the charity commissioner office before accepting donations.
These institutions are also liable to submit a book of accounts; private charitable trusts, however, have been kept outside the state's cognizance.
March witnesses 15% increase in farmer suicides
235 farmers committed suicide in the month of March itself.
Out of the 639 suicide cases, financial assistance had been provided to 224; 138 cases had been rejected and 267 are still being scrutinized.

MU doubles examination fees for students
Mumbai University students will now have to spend 50-100% more as their examination fees from the upcoming academic year, due to the increase in salaries of examiners.
Currently, undergraduate students spend Rs. 500 as their examination fee, which would be Rs. 1,000 from the upcoming academic session.
For postgraduate students, the fees are Rs. 1,000, which is being increased to Rs. 1,500.
Monsoon preparation: BMC 18 days behind schedule
The Brihanmumbai's Municipal Corporation's contracts for de-silting of nullahs and transportation of removed silt worth Rs. 33 crore did not find any bidders despite of repeated extensions and relaxing of tender guidelines.
According to the rules, 60% of the cleaning needs to happen prior to the monsoon, 20% during and the rest post monsoon.
The pre-monsoon precaution process is already delayed by 18 days.
Mumbai's beaches are being greeted with marine animal carcasses
Mumbai has had six marine animal carcasses washed along its coast in the last six days, causing environmentalists to raise an alarm.
Decomposed carcasses of 3 Olive Ridley turtles were found at the beaches of Vasai and Uttan last week.
Since the last 2 years, carcasses of approximately 30 dolphins, 6 whales and finless porpoises have washed over along the coast of Maharashtra.
