PM Modi visits Katra (J&K)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Katra shrine in Jammu & Kashmir again.

Modi was greeted by State Governor N.N.Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, top civil administration and army officers, and senior members of the PDP-BJP ruling coalition.

Modi distributed medical cards for free treatment to nearby village residents.

Dozens of commandos of the special protection group were deployed in Katra for security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Jammu and took a chopper to the town of Katra, the base-camp town for the Vaishno Devi shrine.

At Katra, Modi flagged off a new train travelling from Katra to Delhi via Udhampur.

The train was part of an ambitious Rs.1,150 crore Kashmir rail-link project attempting to connect the Kashmir region to the rest of India.

After flagging off the new train at Katra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed to Jammu & Kashmir's capital, Srinagar to address troops of the Indian Army at the Badami Bagh Cantonment.

PM Modi also visited Uri to formally inaugurate the second phase of a hydel project.

Modi returned to Delhi in the evening.

Pilgrimages to Vaishno Devi shrine

Around 50 lakh people visit the Vaishno Devi shrine annually, a 15 km climb from the town of Katra which was so far only accessible by road. The Katra-Delhi train is aimed to make the journey easier.

PM Modi addressed the convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.

He also formally inaugurated the 250-bedded Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana super-speciality hospital - a new state of the art facility with a price tag of Rs.300 crore.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Sports Complex and addressed a rally in the town of Katra.

Modi celebrates sports

Addressing the convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Narendra Modi said, "We are hosting FIFA U-17 World Cup and this has to be an opportunity for us to celebrate sports. The world should see our Yuva Shakti".
