Amit Shah will inaugurate BJP's poll campaign in Goa

National President of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Amit Shah will launch Goa's election campaign for upcoming assembly elections.

His 3-day visit will commence on 19th August, 2016.

10,000 booth level workers will be addressed by Amit Shah at Bambolim.

BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar confirmed Amit Shah's schedule, saying, "With Shah addressing BJP booth level workers, an extensive election campaign will begin."

Born on 22nd October, 1964, Amit Shah was 14 years old when he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a 'Tarun Swayamsevak'.

He was designated the role of 'secretary' of ABVP (BJP's student wing) in Ahmedabad in the year 1982.

Shah went on to hold several important posts in BJP and was elected as MLA for the first time in 1995.

On 9th July, 2014, Amit Shah took up Presidency of the Bharatiya Janta Party.

BJP's Central Parliamentary Board collectively approved his appointment as the President of the Party.

In 2010, Amit Shah was arrested on charges of murder, extortion and kidnapping of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, but was later freed of the same.

In 2013, the "Snoopgate" scandal held Shah guilty of indirectly conducting illegal surveillance, spy activities.


Amit Shah is known to create divides between religious groups for electoral gain. He was also banned in April 2014 by India's Election Commission from conducting political rallies and meetings due to issuing statements "promoting hatred and ill will".

This will be his second term, and he will serve as the party's National President for a tenure of 3 years.

BJP President Amit Shah has drafted a new set of guidelines under the national training programme for BJP leaders.

Leaders at the mandal, district, state and national levels, including MPs, MLAs and office bearers will learn 18 new subjects including resource mobilization (arthayam) and social harmony (samajik samarasta).

Sources said a panel of in-house experts will begin training next month.
