BJP President Amit Shah filed his nomination from Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Saturday after NDA showed its strength in a massive rally.
BJP's top leaders like Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, and allies Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena), Ram Vilas Paswan (LJP), and Parkash Singh Badal (Akali Dal), shared the stage. Shah also held roadshow later.
Shah got the constituency which Advani represented for decades
Gandhinagar, one of the safest seats for BJP, has sent LK Advani to the Parliament since 1991. He won from there six times.
But this time the BJP veteran was replaced by Shah, who is a Rajya Sabha MP. This is the first time Shah will be contesting Lok Sabha polls.
Apparently, party workers wanted someone of national importance to be fielded from Gandhinagar.
Will honor Advani's legacy, said Shah
Addressing the large public gathering, Shah said he will work towards taking Advani's legacy forward.
He said he was "blessed" to be given the opportunity to contest from Gandhinagar which elected stalwarts like Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Shah said the ensuing polls are about choosing a leader and claimed everyone from Himachal to Kanyakumari and from Kamrup to Gandhinagar chanted "Modi, Modi, Modi".
Have never stabbed from back, said Thackeray
At the rally, Thackeray claimed there is no Opposition in the game. He also said people must be surprised to see him at BJP rally.
"My father taught me to do everything from the heart, issues that we raised were of the people, we (BJP-Shiv Sena) had differences but we settled them. We never stabbed from back & never will," Thackeray added.
