Singer and BJP MP Hans Raj Hans has said that Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi should be renamed as "Modi National University (MNU)" after PM Narendra Modi.
Hans Raj, the BJP legislator from the North West Delhi constituency, made the remarks on Saturday while performing at an event in JNU where he also hit out at the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Hans Raj made the comments while speaking on Kashmir issue
At the JNU event, Hans Raj said that JNU should be renamed as MNU while speaking about the removal of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir.
On the Kashmir issue, he said that his generation was paying the price for the "mistake of our elders".
Delhi BJP chief and MP, Manoj Tiwari, who also performed at the event organized, echoed Hans Raj's comments.
Something should be named after Modi ji: Hans Raj
"Pray that we all live in peace and no bombing takes place," said Hans Raj. "I would say we should rename JNU after Prime Minister Narendra Modi as MNU. Something should be named after Modi ji," the BJP MP said at the JNU event.
Past generations committed mistakes: Hans Raj
"Hamare buzurgon ne galatiyan ki hain hum bhugat rahe hain (Our past generations did commit mistakes and we are tolerating it)," Hans Raj said.
"Main kehta hoon iska naam MNU kar do, Modi ji ke naam pe bhi to kuch hona chahiye (I would suggest that its (JNU) name should be changed to MNU... Something should be named after Modi ji)," he added.

Changes have come due to Modi government's efforts: Hans Raj
Addressing reports after the JNU event, Hans Raj said that he had "heard a lot" about the university, adding, "But now changes have come due to the efforts made by the Modi government."
Meanwhile, MP Tiwari also said he was seeing a "positive JNU," echoing Hans Raj's remarks.
The event in JNU was organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
JNU has grown and changed with time: Tiwari
"In the past some have given slogans of 'Bharat Tere Tukde Honge' in the University (JNU) but this institution has grown and changed with time. We heard students raise slogans of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'," Tiwari said after the event.
