Fadnavis likely to be Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra
In the Maharashtra legislative assembly, Fadnavis is expected to become the Leader of Opposition. Fadnavis, who was elected from the Nagpur South West constituency, is the legislature party leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Why did Fadnavis resign as Maharashtra CM?
Fadnavis resigned from as CM after his deputy, Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar, tendered his resignation citing "personal reasons."
He admitted that his four-day-old government didn't have the numbers, soon after the Supreme Court ordered a floor test.
Pawar had allegedly tricked NCP MLAs into supporting the BJP government. The MLAs later withdrew support and backed the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP alliance instead.
