Samsung Galaxy S9 Launch: What do we know so far

Samsung is all set to unveil its Galaxy S9 line of smartphones on February 25.

The South Korean giant has so far remained tight-lipped about Galaxy S9 and S9+, except for an invite to the media which displayed a large '9' with the caption, "The Camera. Reimagined."

But several reports have 'leaked' various details about the upcoming phone.

Here's what we know so far.

Galaxy S9 to be launched on February 25

The Galaxy S9 series will resemble the Galaxy S8 series

According to leaks and reports, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will, perhaps disappointingly, look almost identical to the Galaxy S8 line with thin bezels, curved glass, and 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screens respectively.

However, the dual-cameras may now come in a vertical arrangement, and the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the centre of the back of the phone, unlike the Galaxy S8's right-aligned sensor.

What we know about the S9's specs

The Galaxy S9 line is expected to come with Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon 845 processor, marking it the first time the chip features in a consumer-device.

Reportedly, RAM and memory configurations will be 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ respectively.

According to SamMobile, the S9 series will have a headphone jack, and will sport stereo speakers - a first for Galaxy phones.

Samsung will reportedly offer a killer camera

Samsung's provoking media invite, according to serial leaker Evan Blass, isn't unfounded.

Reportedly, the S9 series will feature the world's first adjustable smartphone camera that can adjust between f/1.5 (also the widest aperture on a smartphone) and f/2.4 on command.

Additionally, it's also rumored that the S9's rear cam will have a super slow motion feature that can record 720p video @480 fps.

Other features

Samsung's answer to Apple's Animoji and Face ID

The Galaxy S9 series will combine the S8's iris scanning and facial recognition technologies into what it's calling Intelligent Scan, supposedly an answer to Apple's Face ID.

Samsung is also including a feature similar to Apple's Animoji in which users can send 3D emojis modeled on their own facial expressions.

The phone will come in Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, Titanium Grey, and Coral Blue.
