Chennai has fastest fixed broadband download speed in India: Report
According to a report by global speed test service Ookla, Chennai has the fastest fixed broadband download speed in India at 32.67 Mbps.
In its 'India's Digital Divide: How Broadband Speed Splits the Nation' report, Ookla analyzed data in the month of February 2018 from the country's 20 largest cities.
The report is based on tests conducted by customers using Ookla's Speed Test service.
Chennai has fastest broadband in India
India's average broadband download speed stands at 20.72 Mbps
Chennai's fixed broadband speed is 57.7% faster than the rest of the country's average download speed, which stands at 20.72 Mbps.
Other cities that scored higher than the country's average are Delhi, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Bengaluru, which ranked second at 27.2 Mbps.
Mumbai came last among the four big metro cities with an overall ranking of eighth and a broadband speed averaging 12.06 Mbps.
Patna recorded slowest broadband download speed in India
Cities that did not fare well include Kanpur, Lucknow, Pune, and Nagpur. Their download speeds were significantly lower than that of their states. Patna registered as the slowest city in terms of fixed broadband download speed. It recorded 62.4% slower speed than the country's average.

Karnataka fastest state in fixed broadband download speed
As far as the states are concerned, Karnataka recorded the fastest fixed broadband download speed in India at 28.46 Mbps during the month of February. This is 37.4% faster than the rest of the country.
Karnataka was followed by Tamil Nadu at a download speed of 27.94 Mbps. Mizoram came last with a download speed of just 3.62 Mbps.
India ranks 67th globally regarding fixed broadband download speed
Ookla has also released its monthly data speed report for February 2017 in which India ranked 67th globally in terms of fixed broadband download speed at 20.72 Mbps.
In line with what Ookla says about India's download speed steadily increasing every month, the data showed a slight improvement from January when the country was ranked 65th.
