On February 20, Samsung will unveil its most-advanced smartphone yet - the Galaxy S10. And based on rumors and reports, the upcoming flagship could be the next big thing in smartphone space.
Notably, with a stylish design and top-of-the-line specs, the S10 will take on Huawei's powerful flagship, the Mate 20 Pro.
So, how do they compare? Let us find out.
At a glance
The Mate 20 Pro features a curved, edge-to-edge display with an iPhone X-like notch and slim bottom bezel. On the back, it has a triple camera setup housed in a glass casing.
In comparison, the S10 will sport an Infinity-O display with a bezel-less design, curved edges and a horizontally-stacked triple rear-camera.
Winner: Galaxy S10 for offering a better alternative to the obtrusive notch.
All about the screen
The Huawei Mate Pro 20 features a 6.39-inch QHD+ (1440x3120 pixels) OLED display panel with 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S10 is rumored to feature 6.11-inch Super AMOLED panel with QHD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the S10, with a smaller display cutout, should offer higher screen-to-body ratio than Mate 20 Pro.
Winner: Galaxy S10.
For the shutterbugs
The Mate 20 Pro's rear camera setup comprises a 40MP (f/1.8) primary camera, paired with a 20MP (f/2.2) ultra wide-angle lens and an 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
Reportedly, S10 will have a 12MP main sensor with f/1.5-f/2.4 variable aperture, coupled with a 16MP (f/1.9) wide-angle lens, and a 13MP (f/2.4) telephoto sensor.
Winner: Galaxy S10 for overall better optics.
For the love of selfies
The Huawei flagship comes with a 24MP (f/2.4) RGB selfie camera. In comparison, the Galaxy S10 will house a single selfie camera while the S10+ will house a dual front camera setup. Unfortunately, there is no credible information about the S10's camera specs.
All the important stuff
Under the hood, the Mate 20 Pro comes with 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor, paired with 6GB/8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB of storage (expandable upto 256GB).
In comparison, the Galaxy S10 will run on 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, possibly with upto 8GB RAM and upto 512GB of internal storage (expandable upto 1TB).
Winner: Tie considering both the chipsets offer top-of-the-line performance.
Sensors & Software
Lifeblood of your smartphone
Huawei's offering runs Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 whereas Galaxy S10 will run the all-new Android Pie-based One UI.
Further, alongside standard sensors, Mate 20 Pro comes with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner and 3D face unlock whereas S10 is rumored to house an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.
Winner: Mate 20 Pro as we still need to try S10's new OS and unlocking technology.
Battery & Connectivity
The Mate 20 Pro packs a 4,200mAh battery with support for 40W SuperCharge technology and two-way wireless charging technology.
In comparison, the S10 is tipped to be backed by a 3,500mAh battery and support fast charging as well as reverse wireless charging.
Further, like Mate 20 Pro, the Samsung flagship will also support the latest connectivity options.
Winner: Mate 20 Pro, for bigger batter.
Pricing: The key factor
In India, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro costs Rs. 69,990 for the solo 6GB RAM/128GB storage model. And as for Galaxy S10, the phone will reportedly come at a starting price of £799 or roughly Rs. 75,510.
How things stack up!
There's no doubt that Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a solid package. It has one of the sharpest displays, impressive cameras, powerful internals, dependable battery, and industry-leading fast charging.
However, given the hype and expected specifications, the Galaxy S10 is likely to dwarf the competition with its new bezel-less design, taller and sharper displays, top-of-the-line cameras and internals.
Winner: To-be-soon-announced Samsung Galaxy S10.
