This 'Zero' smartphone has no ports, buttons, speakers and holes

In a bid to innovate smartphone designs, OEMs have removed headphone jacks, physical fingerprint scanners, and even replaced navigation or home buttons with gesture-based UI.

But Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has taken smartphone design to the next level with its latest Zero smartphone.

Aptly named, the flagship handset has no visible ports, buttons, or holes but works just fine.

Here's how.

Resembling Galaxy S9, the Meizu Zero has slim top and bottom bezels with curved sides, ceramic body, and IP68-rated water-and-dust resistance.

The 5.99-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display houses a fingerprint sensor, so you don't need physical scanners.

Moreover, the screen uses Meizu's "mSound 2.0" technology that allows it to double-up as a speaker and earpiece.

Notably, the microphones are hidden away in the bottom edge.

The selfie camera is housed in the top bezel

Up front, the Meizu Zero has a 20MP selfie snapper that's housed in the top bezel. On the back, it has a dual camera setup comprising a 12MP main sensor and a 20MP telephoto sensor.

Functional

No volume buttons, charging port, headphone jack and SIM tray

For charging needs, the phone supports 18W fast wireless charging while an eSIM replaces the SIM card slot.

And obviously, like several other modern flagships, there's no headphone jack on Meizu Zero.

Further, the physical volume keys and power buttons have been replaced with haptic feedback-based virtual buttons placed on the side of the phone.

Zero is a real product that will go on sale

While Meizu Zero is powered by last year's flagship chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, other details about RAM, storage and battery specifications are still unknown.

However, a company representative has confirmed to CNET that this flagship handset "is a real product that will go on sale."

Hence, we can expect details on pricing and availability sometime soon, possibly at the upcoming MWC 2019.
