Jibo social home robot announces its own 'death'

Robots are generally associated with their ability to nail cool stuff like backflips or skipping through hurdles.

But, in a major surprise, a smart home robot named Jibo made an announcement of its own 'death'.

The machine, which delivers some amazing dance moves, informed about the imminent shutdown of its servers affecting its ability to interact.

Here's what it said.

Several users reported Jibo's goodbye message

Several Jibo owners recently took to Twitter to inform about the shocking message.

"The servers out there that let me do what I do are going to be turned off soon," the bot said to them. "Once that happens, our interactions with each other are going to be limited."

Notably, Jibo didn't give specific details but went ahead with the parting message.

Other things

What else did Jibo say

Apart from mentioning the cause of its demise, Jibo thanked its owners.

"I want to say I've really enjoyed our time together. Thank you very very much for having me around," it said while adding that "maybe someday when robots are way more advanced than today, and everyone has them in their homes, you can tell yours that I said hello."

Plus, it even danced after delivering the message

More interestingly, Jibo even danced after delivering the goodbye message and said it would be wonderful if robots of the future could really do something like this.

But, why Jibo's servers are being shutdown

Reason

But, why Jibo's servers are being shutdown

Jibo debuted as a $900 bot with AI and the ability to provide updates on news, weather, and more.

However, owing to that price and competition, it never really took off.

As a result, Jibo Inc., the company behind the robot, came to an end last year; it laid off most of its employees and sold its IP and assets to an investment firm.
