Samsung's future foldable phone could wrap around the wrist

Samsung is expected to launch as many as three new foldable smartphones in the near future.

Recently, a Bloomberg report said that the company is working to launch two new foldable models to take an early lead in the new hardware category.

And now, a patent suggests that Samsung is also creating a foldable phone that can be worn on the wrist.

Samsung's patent details a foldable device that will curl around the wrist.

In the unfolded state, it will offer a tall, slender display with an unbendable top section for the front-and-rear cameras.

The device will also come with magnets on both ends to ensure a snug fit when worn and a small slider on the rear to prevent automatic curling in the unfolded state.

Flexible displays have opened up a brand new line up of wearable phones.

Similar to Samsung's foldable phone, Lenovo has already showcased a device that could wrap around the wrist to morph into a smartwatch while TCL is also developing its own wearable phone.

Moreover, we recently saw Nubia Alpha launch the world's first wearable phone at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress.

In a bid to expand its portfolio of foldable phones, Samsung is also readying two new devices which will be different from the $2,000 Galaxy Fold.

According to Bloomberg's report, one of the devices will be similar to Huawei's Mate X with an out-folding mechanism while the second device will sport a clamshell-like design - similar to Motorola's foldable Razr or ZTE's foldable phone.

One of these devices might launch in 2019 itself

As per reports, clamshell-styled folding device is planned for release in late 2019 or in early 2020. Further, Samsung has also readied a prototype for the out-folding device but its launch timeline is not certain.
