Over the last few months, Google has been improving Gmail with some rather interesting features, including a cleaner new design and some useful productivity tools.
The capabilities, especially those powered by AI, can automatically complete your messages, thus making the whole emailing experience faster than ever.
Now, we have got a step-by-step guide to help you use these features.
Let's take a look.
For enhancing the emailing process, Gmail offers two AI-backed features: Smart Compose and Smart Replies.
The former learns from your writing habits and offers suggestions for what you might want to write while composing an email; it even suggests subject lines.
Meanwhile, Smart Replies are more about pre-generated responses, which show up when you get an email (depending on its content).
To start using Smart Compose on a desktop, head over to Gmail web and hit the gear icon on the upper right corner.
Then, click on 'Settings' and choose the 'On' option for both 'Smart Compose' writing suggestions and 'Smart Reply'.
Also, turn 'Smart Compose personalization' on to make sure Gmail's writing suggestions are personalized according to your own style of writing.
If you prefer using Gmail on the phone, open the side drawer from the left and head over to 'Settings'.
Then, tap on the checkbox for 'Smart Compose' and 'Smart Reply' to turn both features on.
Do note that not everyone might see the Smart Compose toggle because it is only available for Android users at this stage.
Once enabled, you can get Smart Compose's predictive suggestions while writing an email or typing out its subject.
The tool will offer additional phrases and words to complete the sentence you are typing, but might not work in every case.
For instance, it might not work when you're typing a completely unique sentence, but offer a good suggestion when you're wishing someone "Happy birthday".
When Gmail's suggestions show up, hit the 'Tab' button to accept it - if you're writing on the desktop. On the contrary, if you are on phone, swipe right to add the suggest content into the mail.
For Smart Reply, you have to do nothing but click on the response suggestion offered by Gmail.
The option you select will be added into the reply box, giving you an option to send as it is or add more content to personalize the message.
So, if you get a birthday wish, you might see, 'Thank you' or 'Thanks a lot!' as possible suggestions.
