However, the ban was lifted on April 24, leading to the return of the video-sharing app a week later.
Since then, it has only been raking downloads, growing sharply in the list of most-downloaded apps in India.
And, it took 10 days to become numero uno
Merely 10 days after being restored, TikTok has risen to the second spot in 'top free apps' on the Google Play Store and first spot in the 'social' category of top apps.
The same growth phenomenon was also seen on the Apple App Store where the program witnessed several downloads to reclaim the top free app position.
Growth aided by cash incentive
TikTok's progressive return can be attributed to its immense popularity in the Indian market - the app boasts over a billion downloads, with 300 million of those coming from India.
But, that's not it. The Chinese company has also been offering daily cash rewards of Rs. 1 lakh to celebrate its return and fuel further interest in downloading the app.
How can you get this cash reward
As part of the reward offer, TikTok has been asking users to share #ReturnOfTikTok microsite, offering a link to download the app on social media platforms.
Of everyone sharing this page, three lucky people get a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh daily.
Notably, the offer started soon after TikTok's return and will continue till May 16, 2019.
$500,000 lost per day during the ban
Hopefully, TikTok's tactics and the resulting growth recoup the revenue it lost during the period of the ban. The loss, according to the company, is estimated to be about $500,000 (Rs. 3.48 crore) per day.
