Apple will reportedly launch a notch-less iPhone in 2020

Apple seems to have some major plans to overhaul its 2020 iPhone line-up.

According to a China Times report, the tech giant will launch at least one notch-less iPhone next year and that by 2021, all models will feature full-screen designs.

Moreover, reputed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also suggested a design makeover for 2020 iPhones but with a smaller notch.

Here's more.

New design

Apple to adopt in-display camera and fingerprint tech

According to the report, Apple will adopt an under-display camera to eliminate the notch and achieve an all-screen design. Notably, this technology has already been demonstrated by OPPO and Xiaomi.

Moreover, the new notch-less iPhone is also tipped to debut a "full-screen, acoustic fingerprint ID technology" that will replace the Face ID setup seen on the present batch of iPhones.

Separately, this is Xiaomi's implementation of under-display camera tech

Further, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, at least one new iPhone in 2020 will sport a smaller front camera to offer an improved screen-to-bezel ratio, implying that the notch will be smaller.

When you put together all rumors, it can be concluded in 2020, we'll see two new iPhones with Face ID and smaller notches and one new notch-less iPhone with full-screen fingerprint authentication.

Upgrades

All 2020 iPhones will feature OLED displays

Interestingly, Apple will also depart from its current and upcoming line-up of two premium OLED iPhones and a lower-cost LCD model by launching a trio of OLED iPhones next year, according to a DigiTimes report.

The report claims that 2020 iPhones will come in three new sizes: 5.42-inch, 6.06-inch, and 6.67-inch.

A change in display size means Apple is working on a design change.

Speculation

Premium iPhones could support 5G

Further, in an investor note released last month, Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple will launch its first 5G iPhone next year and that it will use a Qualcomm modem.

Kuo noted that only the top-tier 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone models will support the next-generation network to offer high internet speeds. However, the successor to iPhone Xr will continue to support LTE network.
