US Open: Nadal, Federer into quarters

It's the second week of the US Open, and as one would expect, the competition is heating up.

While the first week was all about Sharapova's comeback, Kvitova's superb win, Rublev's brilliant run, the second week promises to be more exciting with a Nadal-Federer match-up on the cards.

Oh, Rafa!Nadal defeats Dolgopolov in straight sets, will face 19-year-old Rublev

Nadal turned in his most powerful performance yet as he routed Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 in his pre-quarter final match.

It will be Nadal's first quarter final appearance at the Flushing Meadows in four years.

The Spaniard will now take on 19-year-old Russian Andrey Rublev, who defeated No. 9 seed David Goffin.

Rublev thus became the youngest quarter-finalist since Andy Roddick in 2001.

Federer defeats Kohlschreiber in straight sets

Roger that!Federer defeats Kohlschreiber in straight sets

Federer, too, registered a comfortable 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber to reach the quarter-finals.

It was second time in a row that Federer did not face a break point and won in straight sets in the tournament after two difficult five-setters.

He will now face Juan Martin Del Potro, who came back from two sets to beat Dominic Thiem.

One-sided affairPliskova eases into quarters

Like Nadal, it seems that Karolina Pliskova is also improving with every match.

The No.1 seed registered a comfortable victory in the round of 16 on Monday.

After two challenging three-setters in the last two rounds, Pliskova eased past Jennifer Brady of USA, 6-1, 6-0 in a one-sided encounter.

She still faces plenty of demanding tests but this performance will definitely bolster her confidence.

Bopanna fallsRohan Bopanna crashes out of US Open

Indo-Canadian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Gabriela Dabrowski crashed out of the US Open mixed doubles after losing to the pair of Hao-Ching Chan and Michael Venus in the quarter finals.

Bopanna and Dabrowski went down 6-4, 3-6, 8-10 in an exciting match that lasted 1 hour and 4 minutes.

Now, Sania Mirza is the only Indian left in the US Open.
