British racer Lewis Hamilton stole a victory at the 2017 Japanese Grand Prix, to inch closer to his fourth world title.

The Mercedes driver finished ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, who finished second and third respectively.

It was Hamilton's eighth win this season, as he equalled the record of Sebastian Vettel of four wins at Japan.

Speaking after the race, Lewis Hamilton said, "The team has done a phenomenal job, they're just so meticulous so a big thank you to the guys."

Lewis Hamilton is leading the points table with 306 points, a lead of 59 points over the second ranked Sebastian Vettel.

With just four races to go, 100 more points are available for the racers.

As it stands, Hamilton would clinch this year's world title, if he wins the next race- the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, given Vettel finishes below fourth.

The Asia leg of the Formula One has been a terrible one for the four time champion Sebastian Vettel.

After a crash in the Singapore Grand Prix and a finish at fourth position in Malaysia, Vettel had to retire after four laps at Japan owing to engine problems.

He was just three points behind Hamilton before the Singapore Grand Prix.

Next race?

The United States Grand Prix is schedule to take place in Austin, Texas on 22nd October. While it is supposed to be a Mercedes track, the Mexican Grand Prix, scheduled for 29th October, is reported to be a Ferrari track.
