Two weeks after the Indian men's hockey team beat Malaysia to lift the Asia Cup, the Indian women's hockey team beat China in a nail biting match to clinch the women's Asia Cup title in Japan.

The Indian women's hockey team beat the Chinese team 5-4 on penalties after scores were tied at 1-1.

The Indian women's hockey team's Asia Cup win hardly comes as a surprise after their performance in the pool and knockout stages of the tournament.

The Rani Rampal-led team completed the tournament unbeaten, and secured convincing victories against Kazakhstan and defending champions Japan in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

They had beaten finalists China 4-1 in the pool stage.
