Indian wrestlers shine at Commonwealth Wrestling Championships

Indian contingent, at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Johannesburg, is making the country proud yet again.

Indian wrestlers boasted medal count of 9 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 4 bronze medals on the second day in South Africa.

Day 3 of the event will kick-off with freestyle wrestling matches for all weight categories.

India kicked off their campaign, winning 10 gold medals and as many silver medals on day one of the championship.

The Indian Greco Roman wrestling team swept away the championship winning 10 gold and as many silver medals in all the 10 weight categories.

India's medal tally now stands at 19 gold, 17 silver and 4 bronze medals.

India's impressive showing in Johannesburg

Among the gold-medal winners were Kiran (72 kg), Divya Kakran (68 kg) and Ritu Malik (65 kg). Besides them, Pooja (76 kg) and Ravita (59 kg) won silver, while Kavita (76 kg) and Manu Tomar (72 kg) clinched bronze.

India have fielded a 60 member strong contingent which includes the likes of two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, 2017 Asian champion Bajrang Punia, 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat, 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Geeta Phogat and Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik.

There are 10 weight categories and India have fielded two wrestlers in each weight category.
