The 'Wall' of Indian cricket turns 45

On January 11th 1973, one of India's greatest batsmen, Rahul Dravid set foot on earth and the rest is history.

He went on to spare India's blushes for over a decade with his sheer resilience on the pitch, thus earning him the name 'The Wall'.

As the Indian legend turns a year older, here are some of the amazing records held by him.

Dravid, who has 13,288 Test runs to his name, is the fourth highest run scorer in Test cricket after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and is just one run behind number third-placed Jacques Kallis.

David also scored 10,889 runs in ODI cricket and has 48 international centuries to his name.

He was also handed the opportunity to captain India.

Dravid's batting resilience

Dravid's sheer resilience and rock-solid defense earned him the name 'The Wall', hence it doesn't come as a surprise that he holds the record for the most number of deliveries faced and the most number of minutes spent at the crease.

Dravid faced 31,258 balls in 286 Test innings and spent 44,152 minutes at the crease; a record which might never get broken.

Dravid has been involved in the most number of century stands in Tests, with 88 to his name.

Interestingly, he was also involved in both of India's record partnership stands in ODIs (not his preferred format), 331 with Sachin Tendulkar and 318 with Sourav Ganguly.

The Wall saw 453 wickets fall while standing on the other side of the crease in Tests.


First to score a hundred in all Test playing nations

In Test cricket, Dravid holds the record for the second and third highest partnership stands for India, 410 with Virender Sehwag and 376 with VVS Laxman.

The highest Test partnership stand for India was 413 shared between Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy.

Dravid is the first international cricketer to have registered a hundred in all ten Test playing nations.

Not only a great batsman, Dravid was also an outstanding fielder on the pitch.

One of the safest pair of hands in cricket, the man from Bengaluru holds the record for the most number of catches by a fielder in Tests, with 210 to his name.

Dravid played 94 consecutive Test matches for India and scored 8,003 runs in his first 94-Tests.

2004 was the best year of Dravid's career. The stylish right-handed batsman was named ICC Test Player of the Year and the ICC player of the Year. In 2012, he was honored with the Don Bradman award.
