Man City wins League Cup beating Liverpool

Manchester City won the League Cup by beating Liverpool in the final.

The two sides went into penalty shoot-out after the match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time at the Wembley Stadium.

City's goalkeeper Willy Caballero saved spot kicks from Lucas Leiva, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana while Yaya Toure slotted home the winning kick as Manuel Pellegrini's side triumphed 3-1.

Format How does the tournament progress?

Premier League clubs enter the competition in Round-Two with clubs that have qualified for the Champions League or Europa League joining in Round-Three.

League Cup culminates in a final at Wembley Stadium, with the winner qualifying for the subsequent Europa League.

Most successful club

Liverpool are the most successful club in the history of League Cup tournament with a total of eight wins. The last champions (2014-15) of the cup were Chelsea.

2015-16 Capital One Cup was the 56th season of the Football League Cup.

It began on 11 August 2015 and concluded on 28 February 2016.

Four teams - Stoke City, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City qualified for semifinals winning the fifth round.

While Liverpool beat Stoke city on penalties to book a spot in final, Man City beat Everton with a 4-3 aggregate score.
