Day 2 CWG: India bag wins in badminton, hockey, boxing

Day 2 of 21st Commonwealth Games had a mixed bag of results for the Indian contingent.

Apart from the medal wins in weightlifting for Sanjita Chanu, and Deepak Lather, the Indian contingent advanced in field hockey and mixed team event of badminton.

India also won in the round of 16 of boxing and artistic gymnastics.

India enter quarterfinals of badminton mixed team event

Indian team breezed through the mixed team event of badminton, beating Scotland 5-0. With this win, they entered the quarterfinal.

The event began with Saina giving India 1-0 lead in the women's singles, followed by Kidambi Srikanth's win in the men's singles.

Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa ensured India's victory.

Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty, Pranav Chopra and Sikki Reddy completed the clean sweep.

Boxing and women's hockey

After the loss to Wales, Indian women's hockey team got back to winning ways beating Malaysia 4-1 in Pool A clash.

Gurjit Kaur scored a brace followed by goals from skipper Rani Rampal and Lalremsiami.

In boxing, teenager Naman Tanwar and Amit Panghal advanced into the quarterfinals of men's 91 kg and 49 kg categories, after winning their opening bouts.

Artistic gymnastics and squash

Artistic gymnastics and squash

In artistic gymnastics, Pranati Das and Pranati Nayak made it to the individual women's all-round and vault finals respectively.

It was a disappointing day for India's World Cup medallist Aruna Budda Reddy, who failed to advance.

Joshna Chinappa was only the Indian squash singles player who advanced into the quarters, while Dipika Pallikal and Vikram Malhotra lost their ties.

Ousted in cycling and lawn bowls

While Indian men's lawn bowls team lost 14-15 to England, Pinki lost to Litia Tikosisuva of Fiji 12-21. No player from India advanced to further rounds of the cycling events.
