Serena Williams beat Greman Angelique Kerber to lift her seventh Wimbledon title.

Serena won in two straight sets 7-5, 6-3.

She has equalled the record with Steffi Graf for most career Grand Slams with 22 titles in the open era.

Kerber had beaten Serena at the Australian Open finals earlier this year.

Serena Williams was born on 26 September 1981 in Florida.

She started to play tennis at the age of three and her parents Richard Williams and Oracene Price were her early coaches.

She was home-schooled along with sister Venus by her father.

Her father stopped sending her to national junior tennis tournaments after he heard white parents talk about Venus and her in tournaments.

Professional DebutReaching the top 100

Serena made her professional debut in 1995 at the age of 14. However, she did not make a good impression and did not play any match in 1996.

In 1997, ranked 304, she defeated world no. 7 Mary Pierce and world no. 4 Monica Seles at the Ameritech Cup Chicago.

She didn't win the tournament, but finished at rank 99 in 1997.

22 Grand Slams

Serena won her first grand slam title in 1999 when she beat Hingis in the US Open. Serena never looked back from then.

She has won the US Open seven times, Australian Open six times and Wimbledon seven times including today's and French Open thrice.

She is behind Margaret Court and has now equalled Steffi Graf in the list of most Grand Slam titles.

Serena Williams has won three gold medals at Olympics in women's doubles event in 2000, 2008 and 2012. She also won a gold in women's singles event in 2012.

Serena wins double title at Wimbedon

Serena Williams and Venus Williams won their sixth Wimbledon doubles title last night. They beat Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-4. The William sisters have won a total of 14 women's double titles together.

One of the most decorated tennis players of the world, Serena Williams, announced her engagement with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Williams, currently ranked second in the world, used the social media platform of Reddit to announce her engagement in form of a poem.

The couple has been dating since the fall of 2015 and have not yet revealed a wedding date.

World number two Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams to lift the 2017 Australian Open trophy at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Serena won the match 6-4, 6-4 in one hour 21 minutes to lift her 7th Australian Open and her 23rd Grand Slam title.

With the win, she moves back to being the world number one.
