Silver lining for Yogeshwar Dutt

Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt may be getting his 2012 London Olympics bronze medal upgraded to silver medal after the silver medallist tested positive for a banned substance.

Russian wrestler Besik Kudukhov, who won silver at the London Olympics, tested positive for a banned substance in tests conducted on samples collected during the London Olympics.

Following that, he has been stripped of his silver medal.

Yogeshwar Dutt is an Indian wrestler who won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

He has also won gold medals at the Commonwealth Championships in 2003, 2005 and 2007 and in the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Dutt was one of the favorites for winning a medal for India at the 2016 Rio Olympics but he exited in the very first round.

The global governing body for wrestling, United World Wrestling, has confirmed the news saying that Besik Kudukov has tested positive for a banned substance and his silver medal has been taken away. They added that they are awaiting confirmation from the International Olympics Committee.

Yogeshwar Dutt's bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics will not be converted to a silver medal, after the International Olympics Committee (IOC) cleared the investigation on Besik Kudukhov.

The IOC in a statement said that they "will not deprive wrestler Besik Kudukhov of his silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London."

Notably, Dutt had also declined to get his medal upgraded.
