2016 Rio Paralympics - Final day updates!

2016 Rio Paralympics ended with a beautiful closing ceremony as Tokyo took over the baton for 2020 games.

The closing ceremony took place at the Maracana stadium which saw a blaze of fireworks and dancers dancing on the tunes of samba.

"The games faced many troubles but the mission was accomplished", said Carlos Nuzman, President of Rio Organizing committee.

Records keep breaking on the last day

Cuban sprinter Omara Durand added one more gold to her name by winning women's 400m T12. The fastest female paralympian finished the race in 51.77 seconds, setting another world record.

China's Jin Zheng won gold in women's 1500m T11 event, finishing in a world record time of 4:38.92.

Discus thrower Na Mi of China won her third straight gold, breaking her own world record.

Tribute paid to Iranian para-cyclist

A minute of silence was observed during the closing ceremony of Rio Paralympics as a tribute to the Iranian para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who lost his life a day before.

China finishes on top - fourth consecutive time

Winning 107 gold, 81 silver and 51 bronze medals, Chinese para-athletes helped their country finish on the top of the medals table for fourth time in a row at the Paralympics.

Great Britain finished on second place with a total of 147 medals, which include 64 gold.

Ukraine finished third with 117 medals, while USA was on fourth position with 115 medals.

India's performance at 2016 Paralympics

India sent its largest ever contingent at the 2016 Paralympics with 19 athletes and ended up winning a total of four medals. India won two gold and a silver and bronze each finishing 43rd on the medals table.
