Srikanth beats Kashyap in 1st round of Japan Super Series

2016 Japan Open Super Series

Kidambi Srikanth beat Parupalli Kashyap in the first round of 2016 Japan Open Super Series.

After winning one set each, the Indians gave a tough fight to each other in the third set. But it was the Olympic quarter-finalist Srikanth who had a upper hand winning the match 14-21, 21-14, 23-21.

He will face India's Ajay Jayaram in the second round.

Japan Open Super Series (Badminton)

The Japan Open is one of the 12 tournaments of the Badminton World Federation's Super Series.

The tournament became a part of the super series in 2007.

The 2016 edition will be held from 20th-25th September. The total prize money for the tournament is $300,000.

The tournament includes men's singles and doubles events, women's singles and doubles events and mixed doubles.

Who plays in the Super Series?

The World Super Series consists of a total of 12 tournaments which sees participation of the top 32 world ranked players in singles (men's and women's) and doubles (men's, women's and mixed).

Kashyap, Kadambi to lead Indian campaign at Japan Open

India's Parupalli Kashyap advanced to the main draw at the Japan open Super Series in the men's singles event.

He will play 2016 Olympic quarter-finalist Kidambi Srikanth in the first round of the tournament.

Along with Srikanth and Kashyap, India's Ajay Jayaram, H.S. Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth will participate in men's singles events in the main draws.

PV Sindhu's coach Pullela Gopichand told the media that Sindhu is not injured, but won't be playing at the Japan Open and Korean Open. He added that she would be back at the Denmark Open Super Series Premier beginning from 18 October.

Saina Nehwal suffered a knee injury during the 2016 Rio Olympics which made her back out from playing for two months.

Ajay Jayaram into second round of Japan Super Series

India's Ajay Jayaram won his first round match at the 2016 Japan Open Super Series defeating Indonesia's Sony Dwi Kuncoro 21-19, 23-21.

In the second round, Jayaram will face the winner of the match between Srikanth Kadambi and Parupalli Kashyap which is scheduled later today.

No matter who wins in the second round, there will be an Indian who will proceed to the quarter-finals.

Prannoy in second round, Praneeth loses after tough fight

HS Prannoy joined Srikanth and Jayaram in second round of the 2016 Japan Open. Prannoy defeated Iskandar Zulkarnain of Malaysia 23-21, 19-21, 21-18. However, India's fourth shuttler in the tournament, Sai Praneeth lost 9-21, 23-21, 21-10 against NG Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong.
