Mumbai Open's first day matches canceled for India-West Indies ODI
The WTA Mumbai Open, which was scheduled to start from October 29, has canceled the matches on the first day to accommodate the ODI between India and West Indies, that will be held at the Brabourne Stadium tomorrow.
Comments from the tournament director regarding the decision
Tournament directors Prashant Sutar and Sunder Iyer have released a statement explaining the rationale behind this decision.
"Keeping in mind the large gathering, which will be coming for the India vs West Indies match and to avoid any untoward incident, the organizers and WTA officials have jointly decided to start the main draw matches on Tuesday," read the statement.
MSLTA Secretary had warned that some matches could be rescheduled
The Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association Secretary had, earlier, warned that some of the fixtures of day-one might have to be rescheduled because of the ODI between India and the West Indies. All matches have now been shifted to Tuesday and Wednesday.
