Indian women's hockey team face China in Asian Champions final

Indian women's hockey team will be up against China in the title clash of the 2016 Women's Asian Champions Trophy in Singapore.

Ranked 8th and 12th respectively in the FIH rankings, it will be the first time that China and India will face each other in the finals of the tournament.

The two team will be up against each-other today at 5 PM (IST).

The Asian Hockey Champions Trophy for women is a hockey tournament held annually which sees top five Asian women's teams competing for the title.

Started in the year 2010, South Korea has won two titles while Japan has one till now.

The tournament is played in the round robin format followed by the matches for 3rd and 4th spot and then finals.

2016 Women's Asian Champions Trophy

The 2016 edition of the tournament will be held from 29 October - 5 November 2016 in Singapore. The five teams competing for the title are China, India, Malaysia, Japan and Korea.

India opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Japan. It was 150th international match for the Indian captain Vandana Kataria since her debut in 2006 in junior squad.

In the second match, India defeated two time champions Korea 2-1 and continued their brilliant performance to beat Malaysia 2-0 in next encounter.

India faced 2-3 defeat in the last league match against China.

Ranked higher than any other team in the tournament, China opened the tournament with a brilliant 3-1 win over Malaysia.

Chinese women's hockey team were handed a 0-2 defeat in the second match to Japan.

In the last two matches, China proved why they were ranked higher and won both the matches against South Korea and India to finish on top of the points-table.

Indian women's hockey team overcame the Chinese hurdle to win the 2016 Women's Asian Championship Trophy in Singapore. India won 2-1.

Deep Grace Ekka scored the first goal for India in the 13th minute to take 1-0 lead.

Deepika who won the "Player of the Tournament" award scored the second goal with just 17 second remaining to win it for India.
