Joe Root's 124 and Moeen Ali unbeaten knock of 99 runs took England to 311 after losing four wickets in the first test against India at Rajkot.

After choosing to bat first, England lost first wicket for 47. Joe Root scored 124 runs before being sent to pavilion by Umesh Yadav.

Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets for India.

India tour of EnglandEngland to play test, ODI and T20 series in India

England will tour India to play five test matches, three ODIs and three T20 matches.

The tour's first test match took place from 9 November 2016 at Rajkot.

Alastair Cook led team played against Bangladesh earlier and the two match test series ended in a 1-1 draw.

World number one India will look to dominate the visitors after having whitewashed New Zealand last month.

India will be making the use of Decision Review System (DRS) for their test series against England. India became the last test playing nation to accept the DRS.

Resisting the on-field technology from the time it came it was introduced, BCCI decided to use the DRS after the International Cricket Council held a presentation to inform about the upgrades in the system.

We are not focussing on DRS: Kohli

On use of DRS, Virat Kohli said, "There is no rocket science on DRS. As a cricketer you have a fair idea of where the ball has hit, whether it has pitched in line or hit in line. Those are pretty basic things in cricket."

England's pacer Stuart Broad would be playing in his 100th test while Haseeb Hameed made his test debut for England. It was the first test match for the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium which had hosted only ODIs and IPL matches earlier.

Ravindra Jadeja was the most successful bowler for India as he took three wickets, giving away 86 runs.

In reply, India scored 63 runs as second day's play ended.

Day threePujara, Vijay gave India a stable start

India added 259 runs on day three as Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay scored tons.

Pujara scored 124 runs while Vijay scored 126 before they were sent back to the pavilion by England bowlers.

India lost their last three wickets for just 42 runs and were 319 for the loss of four wickets as the day ended.

India started their day four of Rajkot test and lost early wickets before Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha scored a fifty run partnership.

Ashwin scored 70 runs as India were bundled out for 488 runs with the hosts trailing by 49 runs.

England in second innings scored 114 runs at the end of the day. Haseeb Hameed is on crease with 62 runs.
