Sindhu struggles, but reaches quarterfinals of China Open

Indian shuttlers at 2016 China Open

PV Sindhu won her second round match against Beiwen Zhang after a bit of struggle to reach the quarterfinals of 2016 China Open.

Sindhu won the match with an 18-21, 22-20, 21-17 scoreline.

Seeded seventh, the Indian player will now face unseeded Bingjiao He of China tomorrow.

Sindhu had defeated Hsu-Ya Ching 21-12, 21-16 in the first round.

China Open (Badminton)

The China Open is an annual professional badminton tournament which became a part of BWF Super Series in 2007.

The 2016 edition would take place from 15-20 November in Fuzhou, China.

China Open 2016 will have a total prize money of $700,000 and will have singles and doubles event for both men and women and also mixed doubles events.

Indian participation

India will see participation in the men's and women's singles event. H S Prannoy, Sai Praneeth and Ajay Jayaram will participate in men's event while PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will be participating in the women's event.

Saina lost in first round in comeback match

Saina Nehwal was handed a defeat by unseeded Thai player Porntip Buranaprasertuk in the first round of China Open, in what was Nehwal's comeback match after three months. She lost 16-21, 21-19, 14-21 in a match that lasted about an hour.

The Indian shuttler was out of play since the Rio Olympics owing to a knee injury.

After her loss, Saina seemed satisfied about the way she played. She said, "This was my first tournament since Rio Olympics and it felt really good to be back. Even though I lost early, I am quite satisfied with the way I played."

Jayaram reaches quarterfinals of China Open

Indians will see another shuttler in the quarterfinals as Ajay Jayaram defeated Wei N in the second round of China Open.

Jayaram lost the first set 20-22, but fought back in the next two sets and won 21-19 and 21-12.

He will now face China's Chen Long in the quarter-finals.

Ajay had defeated Zhu Siyuan 21-19, 20-22, 21-17 in the first round.

HS Prannoy loses in second round

HS Prannoy suffered a straight loss in the second round from China's Qiao Bin. Bin won 21-17, 21-19. In the first round, Sai Praneeth lost to Germany's Marc Zwiebler to crash out of the tournament.

PV Sindhu reaches China Open finals

2016 Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu reached the finals of 2016 China Open after defeating Korea's Sung Ji Hyun.

Sindhu lost the first set 11-21, but came back to win remaining two sets 23-21, 21-19 and reached second super series finals of her career.

She will face Sun Yu of China in the finals tomorrow.

PV Sindhu wins China Open, her maiden Super Series title

Continuing her stellar form, Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu won the China Open beating home favorite Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11, in the final.

This was her maiden Super Series title.

Sindhu is only the 3rd Indian and 2nd Indian woman shuttler to have won the prestigious tournament. Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth had previously clinched the China Open title in 2014.
