New Zealand beat Bangladesh in first ODI: Here're records scripted

High-flying New Zealand thumped Bangladesh in the first ODI on Wednesday.

The Kiwis chased down a target of 233, with eight wickets to spare.

The chief architect of the win was Martin Guptill, who scored a superb century.

The Kiwi opener hit eight fours and four sixes.

Senior cricketer Guptill ensured that he stayed till the end to see his side past the line.

He shared a 103-run opening stand with Henry Nicholls (53).

This was Guptill's 15th career ODI ton.

He equalled the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Upul Tharanga, Virender Sehwag and Mohammad Yousuf.

He also went past Sir Richie Richardson in terms of career ODI runs (6,293).

ODI runs: In-form Ross Taylor goes past Hashim Amla

Veteran middle order batsman Ross Taylor (45*) went past South Africa's Hashim Amla (7,910) in terms of total ODI runs scored.

Taylor has 7,936 runs and needs 46 more to surpass former Australian skipper Michael Clarke (7,981).

Trent Boult (3/40) now has 144 ODI wickets.

He needs four more to go past Shane Bond and become the eighth highest ODI wicket-taker for the Kiwis.

Mohammad Mithun was the only Bangladeshi batsman to get past the fifty mark (62).

This was his third career ODI fifty.

Mithun helped Bangladesh to get past the 200-run mark and added a valuable 84-run stand with Mohammad Saifuddin (45) for the eighth wicket.

This was New Zealand's 11th consecutive win over Bangladesh in ODIs on home soil.

The run started from December 2007.

How did the match pan out?

Bangladesh were reduced to 94/6, before Mithun gave them some sense of order. Along with Mehidy Hasan and Saifuddin, he saw Bangladesh get to 232. Boult was pick of the bowlers. In reply, the Kiwis won the match in 44.3 overs.
